Privacy policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

Last updated: 13 August 2026

1. Who we are

TripChecker ("we", "us") operates the website at tripchecker.co.uk. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is used.

For any question about this policy, your data, or to exercise any of the rights set out below, contact:

2. What we collect

We collect very little. The only personal information we ask for is your email address. We do not collect names, phone numbers, postal addresses or identity documents, and there is no account system, no login and no payment processing on this site.

Information you give us

  • Your email address, if you submit it through the contact form, the Holiday Stress Score signup, or a waiting list form.
  • Your message, if you use the contact form.
  • The destination you typed, if you submit it alongside a waiting list request, so we know what people are looking for.

Information collected automatically

  • Anonymous visit statistics through Cloudflare Web Analytics: which pages were viewed, the country a visit came from, the type of device and browser, and which site referred you. This is measured without cookies and without any identifier for you or your device, so it cannot be linked back to you or used to follow you between visits or across other websites.
  • Standard server logs held by our hosting provider, including IP addresses, as a normal part of running a website securely.

Stored on your device

  • Currency favourites. If you save favourite currencies on the Xchange Checker page, that list is stored in your own browser's local storage. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and contains no personal information. Clearing your browser data removes it.

3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis

Email and message from the contact formTo read and reply to your messageLegitimate interests: responding to enquiries we receive
Anonymous visit statisticsTo understand which pages are useful and improve the siteLegitimate interests: understanding how the site is used. No cookies are set and no personal data is collected.

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not build profiles about you.

4. Who else processes your data

We use a small number of third party services to run the site. Each acts as a processor on our behalf, or as an independent controller where stated.

ServiceWhat it handlesWhere
FormspreeReceives and stores form submissions: your email address and, for contact enquiries, your messageUnited States
CloudflareWebsite hosting, content delivery and cookieless visit statistics, including server logsGlobal network
Google FontsServes the typeface used on the site. Your IP address is visible to Google as part of loading itGlobal network

Some of these transfer data outside the UK. Where that happens, transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision, depending on the provider.

5. Cookies

This site does not use cookies. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.

We measure visits using Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is designed to work without cookies and without fingerprinting. It does not store anything on your device, does not create an identifier for you, and cannot track you across other websites.

The currency favourites described in section 2 use your browser's local storage rather than cookies. They are functional only, stay on your device, and contain no personal data. Clearing your browser data removes them.

6. How long we keep it

  • Email addresses from signups: until you ask us to remove them, or until we stop running the mailing list.
  • Contact form messages: up to 24 months after we have dealt with your enquiry.
  • Anonymous visit statistics: retained by Cloudflare for a limited period. As they contain no personal data, they cannot be traced to any individual.
  • Server logs: short term, in line with our hosting provider's normal retention.

7. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it
  • have inaccurate data corrected
  • have your data deleted
  • restrict or object to how we use it
  • receive your data in a portable format
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent

To exercise any of these, email hello@tripchecker.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.

Unsubscribing

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us and we will remove you. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

8. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please contact us first at hello@tripchecker.co.uk so we can try to put it right.

You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator:

  • Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
  • Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF
  • Helpline: 0303 123 1113
  • ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint

9. Children

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their details, email us and we will delete them.

10. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. We keep the personal data we hold to a minimum, and access is limited to those who need it. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Where changes are significant, we will say so clearly on the site.

A note on what TripChecker is. This site is a general information resource. It is not insurance advice, and we do not recommend, compare or arrange insurance policies. Nothing here is a substitute for reading your own policy wording or checking current FCDO travel advice.
